RACES

Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service

RACES is a government-authorized amateur radio service activated by emergency management during declared emergencies.

It provides a structured way for licensed amateur radio operators to support official response operations when requested.

What RACES Does

RACES operators may support:

  • Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs)
  • Field reporting and damage assessments
  • Situational awareness during disasters
  • Backup communication when primary systems fail

RACES operates only when activated by government authority and follows formal procedures and command structures.

RACES and West Texas Pathfinders

West Texas Pathfinders supports and trains volunteers who may also serve in RACES roles.

Through SPARC TaskForce, operators develop skills that allow them to integrate smoothly into RACES operations when activated.
